Out of all the races in Starcraft 2, the Terrans have the most powerful defense.
Terran Bunker Defense
The Terran bunkers provide a formidable defense against various invasion attempts to rush and destroy you.

When trying to organize a defense you need to pay attention to your enemies to what they are building. If you are up against a zerg or protoss opponent, you should have at least one firebat in every bunker. If your enemy rush you with a ton of zerglings or zealots, you may want to put two firebats in a bunker instead.
At the same time, you should try to back up your bunker defenses with siege tanks, they can provide valuable support to your infantry units and at the same time, deal massive splash damages to approaching enemy land units. Bear in mind that tanks can be vulnerable to attacks if enemy units get too close enough to it, so always keep your tanks behind the bunkers and dispatch any land units to protect them if necessary.
If you know an attack is imminent, place some SCV’s next to your bunkers to repair them as they take damage. This simple tactic could help you defend longer and may even turn the tide of the battle to your favor.

Terran Missile Turrets Defense
Missile turrets can detect cloaked units and are very effective against air threats like mutalisks, scouts and wraiths and overlords,shuttles and dropships carrying payloads of enemy troops. When you are playing as a Terran, your opponents will always try to bypass your defense line with air troops, therefore it is important to surround your base with missile turrets to deter and prevent any of the enemy’s troops from landing behind your defense lines.
However perhaps the biggest threat to both the terran land and air defenses the Zerg guardian. This unit is capable of air flight and thus escapes the firepower of the tank… and it’s long attack range allows it to destroy missile turrets and bunkers while staying out of range. The best way to deal with guardians is to have an air force of your own capable of dealing with them. Cloaked wraiths can counter well, unless the enemy has overlords near by and mutalisks. Another great counter against the guardians are battle cruisers, although they take some longer to produce and are more expensive.
If you have science vessels with irradiate, you can irradiate clusters of mutalisks and guardians to cause massive damage. For guardians that are over land, stimmed marines and goliaths are a good counter.
Terran vs Terran Defense
The nuke is something to look out for if you are trying to defend against another terran player. If your enemy directs a nuke to your base, you need to get a detector out there fast, along with some units to kill the ghost calling it in.
A good strategy to prevent ghosts getting close to your base is to sprinkle some spidermines along the perimeter of your base. Another way to handle the cloaked ghost is to use a comstat station or a science vessel.
However, if your opponent cast defensive matrix on their ghost you could be in trouble. Either pull your army back or make sure you have enough concentrated firepower directed at the ghost to take it out quickly.
Another unit to look out for is battle cruisers with Yamato gun. With one blast the battle cruiser can destroy a missile turret while staying well outside of the missile turret’s effective range. With your air defense down, the enemy can follow up with a dropship full of troops.
One important thing to note, that in order to dominate and win in any game in Starcraft 2, you can’t just rely on your defenses to help you win the game.
Even with the best Terran defense, if all you do is defend, the enemy will eventually break through. A good Terran defense strategy is only effective if you are also inflicting damage against your opponents at their own base.
