Terrans in Starcraft 2 are a very adaptable race to play. They have the strongest defense of all the races and their units are pretty well rounded for both ground and air which makes them a strong challenger to both the Zerg and Protoss.
Terran Game Strategy
In the early games, Terran players can get bogged down against zerglings rush or have trouble against the strong protoss Zealot. A popular terran defense strategy is to build a lot of bunkers. On maps where you have ramps that lead into your base, you should place bunkers at these points as a mean of defence against the early rush by Zerg or Zealot attacks by the Protoss.
However to really stop the early rush by Zerg and Protoss, you will need to get firebats fast. Once you have them, place them into the bunker while having your marines guard behind the bunker. With this defense formation, you will be almost unbreakable against any of the early rush until your opponent comes out with heavier units.
In addition to the Terran bunker strategy, another great way to deter enemy attacks is to use spidermines. You should build a few vultures, upgrade to spidermines and start mining around your base entrance as well as on other key locations of the map (such as at the entrance to your enemies base.)
Be sure to spread the mines well apart from each other so that you can cause more damage to your enemy land units. Do not under-estimate the power of the mines. Not only will it help weaken your enemy forces; they are also incredibly annoying to play against plus it will also frustrate and affect your enemy psychologically in battle.
Tip! Most people who play terran can become defensive without realizing it, don’t let this happen to you. The terran attack is very powerful when used well. You should try and fight on your own terms instead of bunkering down and hoping to repel every attack. Eventually your enemy will just take all the resources on the map and be too powerful for you.

Attack Tactics
Once you have your basic defense up, it’s time to take the battle to your enemies.

When playing as Terran there are two routes you can take. Either you attack en masse with loads of marines or you play for the long game and rush to heavier units like siege tanks.
While the marine rush tactic is popular, this strategy is only effective as long as you are not facing against a Zerg player with lots of hydralisks, or against another Terran opponent with siege tanks or a Protoss opponent with reavers.
To execute the Marine rush strategy successfully, build up 3 barracks really early and start training as many marines as quickly as you can ignoring everything else. Supply depots, SCVs and marines should be your main priority, so before you have your 2nd barrack up, refrain from wasting any resources on any other buildings that aren’t essential to this goal.
Continue to train marines and send waves of attacks at the enemy.
Note: You should also upgrade your marines. As an initial upgrade get stimpacks. Stimpacks are great addition to beef up your marines when you need to, be it on attack or defense. When you stim your marines they shoot at twice the speed and can move quicker. If you have bunkers to place your marines in it can be worth getting the range upgrade.
Warning! When playing against another Terran player, watch his/her build strategy, if they are building tanks then you do not want to let them get too many before you do. The same goes for reavers, if you find yourself under attack from a large force of reavers and you have nothing to combat them with, then you’re in a bad (gg) position.
Next, you should get tanks to help defend your main base and any expansions. Build at least two or more factories to start producing tanks. The siege tank is one of the most powerful Terran units. In siege mode, and with enough support to keep the enemy away from them, your siege tanks can provide valuable support and at the same time, deal massive splash damages to approaching enemy land units.
In addition to using tanks as a defense for your main base, you can build up an attack force of air units made up of cruisers and/or wraiths to go on the offensive. It is important to note that if you are going for cruisers, you will need to add a couple of starports and an expansion colony to help improve training time and cost-effectiveness.
Note: When you decide to eventually build wraiths to support your marines, the cloak upgrade is vital, it makes your wraiths truly potent.
